Melting

I have often heard the US called a "cultural melting pot" and it's not a bad description of a modern country that was formed from several very different colonial establishments which took advantaged of a continent stripped of empires and nations by disease and plague.
A country that turned it's back on the idea of hereditary rule and expanded through cash on the barrel as well as expansionist wars.
In general I believe the precious alloy cast from this pot have been solid. Some impurities we have had to throw back into the vessel and burn off.
In the fires of war, strife, and shame we have burned off slavery. We have accepted our own faults in attempted genocide, we have even manged to light other foundries of faith and hope along the way.
Now it seems the fires in the forge have begun to grow cold. no longer can they burn hot enough for true metal to form, rejecting it's impurities. The crucible of freedom seems filled with dross and slag.
Perhaps the true metal has been poured off. Perhaps.
Perhaps the mix of the alloy is less than what was poured in ages past. Perhaps
Perhaps the fuel is wet and dampening the heat. Perhaps
Perhaps (as I believe) those in power do not want the fire to burn hot. They close the dampers of speech and freedom they capitalize on a corrupt media.
They bank a small fire , not to be shared, only behind the party walls. All this they claim shall preserve a little spark, while it serves to starve the fire of the breath of Liberty. I don't know why, maybe they think the corruption of the metal gives it strength.
The impurities do, in fact, make the metal hard, but it makes it brittle as well. and when the metal from our melting pot lays broken, shattered on the earth. When no hall mark can be found, no foundry remains, then will blame matter?
What of our Melting Pot when it lies shattered, laying in fragments surrounded by the very things that gave it life? What then?
