the Declaration

The Declaration of Independence was a defining moment not just because of the words penned down so long ago but because of the choice those who signed it made.

these were men of property and of society. They had rank and even in England would have been at least worthy of note.

By putting their pens to paper on July 4, 1776 they committed an act of Treason against the British Crown. They risked not only their lives but their children and their children's lives. Now we call them Patriots.

They threw their fates into the hazard because they believed they had been wronged.

There were others .. equally as brave, who stood against this cause. They gave there lives and livelihood for their ideal of life and cause. In history we call them Loyalist. They defied their neighbors in the name of "King and Country" and were trodden under hoof and driven out when all was done.

In these modern days we risk no less than those who came before us, but for a moment let us stop and consider the blood that has been shed to guarantee that liberty of thought, that we may agree to disagree....
